Devin Haney says he was as surprised as everyone else in the ninth round in the ninth round of Gervont ‘Tank’ Davis’ fight against Lamont Roach last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Haney said he had never seen anything like it before when the WBA Tank Davis (30-0-1, 28 ko) champion took his knee in the ninth. Judge Steve Willis decided not to achieve him as a blow. He even let the thin one to get back to his corner for his eyes to crash.
But Smackdown allowed the tank to escape with a majority of 12 laps. So, the WBA champion remained, and Roach remained nothing he could show for his performance.
“I always knew Lamont had not been lying. I knew Lamont from the kids. So we came through amateurs together,” said Devin Haney Ring MagazineThinking about Gervont Davis vs. Lamont Roach from last Saturday night.
“I knew Lamont was serious and he came in there to fight, but I thought he did a lot better than I thought he was. I thought he won the fight. No demolition, it was unheard of. It was the first time I saw with my two eyes,” Haney said about Tank Davis that he took the knee in the ninth, and a judge who doesn’t call him.
Many people believe that if Lamont Roach took his knee and then returned to his corner, the judge would consider him a engagement and then waved out of the fight. He is not a superstar like Tank Davis, so he wouldn’t get a special treatment that the stars get.
The judge began to give a tank eight numbers, but then stopped for some reason. That was weird. Roach thinks it was supposed to be knockout, which would give him a win. Since then, he has complained about the athletic commission of the New York state, hoping that they would change the result to give him a victory. Surprisingly, they need to decide for a long time.
