The lonely victory of Rory McIlroy at the player championship came in a dramatic way in 2019. However, despite the victory, he reduced his greatest success in TPC Sawgrass.
The 2019 player championship was held from March 14 to 17 at TPC Sawgrass, where the world’s best golfers were in action for four days. In the last round, McIlroy fired 2-ispod 70 to win the so-called “Fifth Major”.
Jim Furyk clashed a difficult fight with 5-Ispod 67, but northern Irishman sealed his fate with the birds in return at the 16th and 17th holes.
During the winner’s press conference, Rory Mcilroy asked about his peaceful behavior despite the epic feat on TPC Sawgrass. The four -time main champion shared an interesting insight into his approach.
“Of course I desperately wanted to win today, but that’s just another day,” he said. “It’s just another step on a trip. I preached a perspective and I feel like I have a pretty good processing of that perspective. It’s a look.”
He added that he would play for another 15 to 20 years, and that one day or one event from such a long career was not very significant and that it was just a view.
“So, doesn’t change anything. It doesn’t change who I am. It looks great in my CV. I’m very happy about it. It’s another step in the right direction. But that’s all for me. A huge tournament to win.
This was the first McIlroy victory in the year and his only win in the players championship remains.
Rory Mcilroy made 15 starts at the championship of players with a mixed record. He missed six cuts and secured only four Top-10 endings. Although he claimed victory in 2019, he has not ended in the top 10 since then.
