Why did Morne Morkel go home?
According to multiple reports, Morkel returned to South Africa after the death of his father, which took place on February 17, just a few days before the introductory match of India against Bangladesh on February 20th.
Morkel joined the Indian team on February 15th and participated in training at the ICC Academy, but missed the training of the team on February 17, causing concern about his absence. The news of his father’s passage threw a shadow over the preparation of a team for the tournament.
While the Indian team prepares for his campaign in the champion trophy, Morkel’s departure is considered a significant blow. It remains uncertain whether he will return to join the team during the tournament. The team should currently have the day before he continues training on February 19, just the day before his first match.
