The English Pacer Kate Cross, retained by Royal Challengers Bengalur (RCB), announced its withdrawal from the 2025 season. Kate Cross expressed disappointment due to missing the upcoming WPL 2025 season, but wants a priority of recovery from a back injury.
Cross and New Zealand versatile Sophie Devine are excluded from the coming season of women in the Premier League, despite the Royal Challengers Bengalur after a successful campaign last year. In response, RCB called Heather Graham and Kim Garth earlier this week.
A week before the start of the tournament, Kate Cross withdrew from the competition to focus on complete recovery, both mentally and physically. In an emotional post, Cross said that rehabilitation and general well -being of injuries are necessary on the eve of the hectic international schedule in the summer.
“My decision to withdraw from the WPL was difficult, but I have to take the time to fully rehab in my injury and give a priority to my mental and physical well-being ahead of the great summer,” Cross said in the Instagram post.
“It’s outraged that I’m missing my time with RCB this year, but I want @smiti_mandhana and girls all the happiness in the trophy defense! I will support everything from home,” she added.
RCB replied to the Cross’ Instagram Post and commented: “We can’t wait to see you on the field, Crossy! Wishing you a quick recovery.”
The 33-year-old English Pacer has yet to be made in the women’s premier league. In women’s T20I, she took 14 hyckeke in 18 games on average 30.50, and the best number is 2/18.
Cross has signed Royal Challengers Bengalur for Inr 30 Lakh on the eve of the WPL 2024 season. Since 2013, she debuted at international debut, she played 18 T20I, 72 ODIS and 8 test matches for England. Interestingly, Cross also worked as a commentator during the league’s inauguration.
The third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 will be played in four cities – Vadodar, Bengalur, Lucknow and Mumbai. Royal Challengers Bengalur will face the Gujarat Giants (GG) in the introductory match of the upcoming T20 tournament in Vadodari, which will host six games.
RCB led by Smiti Mandhana will play their first home game against Mumbai Indian (MI) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 21st. Ekana Stadium in Lucnow should host four matches. The last phase of the league, including knockout matches, will be held at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
