A air force pilot was forced to expel before his F-35 hunting plane crashed on a burning explosion on Tuesday during an Alaska basis.
The pilot experienced a “malfunction” while flying at the base of the Air Force of Eielson, but was able to expel -safely from the plane, told journalists Colonel Paul Townsend. the 354a Fighter Wing.
“The pilot was running standard procedures and executing its respective mission and essentially experienced malfunction,” he added that the pilot had declared an emergency before the fall.
He also said that Lockheed Martin aircraft crashed when he was trying to land at the base.
The video of the fall quickly circulated on social media channels, showing the F-35 on a uncontrolled turn while falling to the ground, which exploded in a fireball with an impact.
In a separate statement, officials at the Base of the Air Force of Eielson said that the incident took place at around 12.49 pm and caused “significant damage” to F-35 Lightning II planes.
The pilot was safe and took to the Bassett Army Hospital, according to the statement.
“I can assure you that the United States Air Force will carry out a thorough investigation into this incident to minimize the possibilities that these occurrences occur again,” Townsend said in a statement.
Eielson Air Force Base, located about 25 kilometers south of Fairbanks, was elected in 2016 to house 54 F-35. The new aircraft was a massive expansion for military installation, as it cost more than $ 500 million to house and maintain airplanes in new buildings, as well as to house the 3,500 new active aeries and their dependents moved to Alaska.
The first F-35 was located in Eielson in April 2020.
Tuesday’s fall is the eleventh F-35 accident since 2018 and arrives less than a year after a F-35 accident in May. In that incident, a F-35 on the path of Texas to the base of the Air Force of Edwards, near Los Angeles, crashed after leaving after a charging stop in New Mexico. The pilot suffered serious injuries.
