Stuart Kettlewell gave up as manager Motherwell after discovering “personal abuse” began to “influence his family.”
In a statement, Motherwell – which faces Celtic Lives on Sky Sports Sunday – they said they “very reluctantly” accepted the resignation.
Kettlewell made the decision on Monday and explained to the club’s executive director Brian Caldwell that the abuse had resulted in his family wanted to stay away from the matches.
The departure of the 40-year-old comes a month before his two-year-old anniversary, and the club leaves the fifth in the Scottish Premiership.
Saturday’s 2-1 defeat on the underside of St Johnstone He was the third consecutive loss of the park of the park and leaves them with only one victory from nine games.
Assistant manager Stephen Frail will take the match for Sunday’s game against the Celtics, and was assisted by Jon Okika, Richard Foster and the staff in the back.
In a statement, Magavica Executive director Brian Caldwell said:
“It’s really sad that Stuart felt it was time to move on.
“He had an exceptional record and generated an impressive amount of revenue from the transfer to the club.
“He was a critical factor in the development of Motherwell Academy graduates, as well as developing young loans during his term.
“When Stuart approached me, I was very disappointed when I found out the effect he had on his family and how he felt. No manager, player or employee of the club, each gives everything for the club, should not feel that way.
“Therefore, we did not have the possibility but reluctantly accept his resignation in the best interests of Stuart and his family. As a football club led in the community, we will always look out for our own.”
