George Kambosos JR will headline on March 22 against a still-to-be-determined opponent in Sydney, Australia. This will be Eddie Hearn’s first boxing match for former unified lightweight champion Kambosos Jr. (21-3, 10 KOs). Skye Nicolson will be on the card.
Hearn did not reveal his plans for Kambosos. He had wanted to schedule a fight between Kambosos and former IBF Light bantamweight champion Liam Paro in Australia, but after Paro’s loss to Richardson Hitchins last December, that scuppered his plans.
Hearn is also promoting Hitchins, but a feud between him and Kambos wouldn’t be huge. Not the best use of Kambosos feeding him to hitchins and watching him throw. Hearn will likely focus on a bigger fight for Kambosos Jr. against someone like Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney or Ryan Garcia.
Kambosos has likely lost every fight in the last four years since his upset win over Teofimo Lopez on November 27, 2021. He had one questionable win against Maxi Hughes on July 22, 2023, many boxing fans saw it as a loss for Kambosos, as Hughes dominated the entire fight.
Kambosos’ last four fights
– Vasily Lomachenko – TKO 11 loss
– Maxi Hughes – MD 12 wins: *Questionable
– Devin Haney – UD 12 loss
– Devin Haney – UD 12 loss
“I think Hitchins is a good fighter. I think he needs me, but I want him because I see holes,” George Kambosos Jr. said. Tightening When asked why he wants to fight IBF Light Welterweight Champion Richardson Hitchins so badly.
“I think at 140 with what I can bring to the table with my basic style. He’s very basic. He’s good at fundamentals. He’s got a good jab, a good left hand, a good right hand, but at 140, I think I can get the better of him,” he continued Kambosos on Hitchins.
“(Liam) Paro did a very good job in the first couple of rounds but he got out of it. I think Paro got another possible mega fight with my name on it. I see things in that fight. I love New York. That’s good for me soil and I like to be, but obviously I’m the underdog.
Kambosos doesn’t stand a chance against Hitchins or any other top 10-level fighter at 140. He’s just a one-hit wonder who lucked out with a narrow 12-round split win over Teofimo Lopez. Little Career of ‘Emperor’ Kambosos since then
Hitchins needed Kambosos for a salary and to attract more attention in his career. However, in terms of opposition, Kambosos is a big step back for Richardson. It’s not in the same league as Hitchins’ recent fights against Liam Paro, Gustavo Lemos, Jose Zepedo or John Bauz.
“I think I’m another Loughmouth New Yorker. I feel like everything has come around. I’m back with a game. I’m back with Eddie Hearn. I love the game. I love Eddie Hearn’s path and vision. I feel comfortable. I have been with Lou since 2016. I love Lou … I feel like there is a good direction and path to become a champion again. I can see that,” said Kambosos.
After 8 years I’m finally showing off in my 140 debut in my hometown of Sydney, a huge card, March 22nd! Full details next week. An important fight to set more gold for the championship 🏆🇦🇺 https://t.co/ssyje3vwa3
