Social network X has grown its in-app revenue over the past year, despite a decline in users, new data shows. Global consumer spending in the X mobile app on iOS and Android both increased by 76.3% year-on-year, compared to the same period in January, according to the company’s intelligence app. App icons. However, some data shows that X’s daily user base is down, as is the usage of its competitors Bluesky and Thread has increased.
In an analysis conducted by Appfigures, X’s worldwide revenue for iOS and Android users reached $7.6 million for the period January 1-20, 2024. At the same time in January 2025, X saw $13.4 million in consumer spending, the company said. This figure includes in-app purchases made through X’s mobile apps – not advertising revenue or subscriptions purchased online, where X users receive discounts on their purchases.
In other words, this isn’t a number that represents X’s total revenue. X continues to be an ad-driven business, so it’s just a window into consumer spending.
The addition of xAI’s Grok AI chatbot to the X app could help boost consumer spending, perhaps in part. There was a certain amount of revenue in X’s early days try the free version of Grok in X in November. This was before X in addition to a Fast version and new Grok button to the X program within December 2024 and the implementation of a a new image format on December 9.
X also added the NFL portal in late November to increase participation in his program. This could have expanded the implementation of X since gaming is one of them much talked about heads on X.
In the US, X saw a 61.4% year-over-year growth in spending on iOS and Android, rising from $4.4 million from January 1-20, 2024, to $7.1 million during the same period in 2025.
Although the global spending of mobile consumers increased year-over-year, the total monthly spending was not a little higher. In some months, the money goes down, and in other months it goes up. In 2025, the lowest month was February, with spending of $9.6 million across iOS and Android. December earned $25.6 million, after an increase that began in October following the US election.
The top purchases on the X iOS app in January 2025 are as follows: at No. 1 is X Premium Monthly subscription ($11/mo.), followed by X Premium Plus Monthly subscription ($30/mo.), X Premium Basic Monthly ($4/mo.), subscription to Elon Musk’s account directly ($4 /mo.), and X Premium Annual Subscription ($114.99/year).
Despite the increase in consumer spending at the end of the year, data suggests that X may lose users.
Both U.S. and global daily users declined in January 2025, with each number down by about 13% compared to the same period last year, according to estimates from the app intelligence provider. Sensor Towerhe shared in response to a data request from TechCrunch. Year-over-year growth in monthly users on X was also down slightly, Sensor Tower found.
Jonathan Briskma, the company’s director of market research, told TechCrunch that X has more than 313 million MAUs worldwide (monthly active users) in the fourth quarter of 2024 and more than 300 million MAUs worldwide through January 2025 month-to-date .
While the use of X decreased compared to the same period in January 2024 and January 2025, daily users of competing programs Instagram Threads and Bluesky jumped more than 170% and 495%, respectively. This growth has been driven by a number of factors, including international expansion and the addition of several new features and functions to both platforms.
We asked X if it would share its internal MAUs, but the company did not respond.
