Aston Villa failed to overcome Monaco in the Champions League despite a decent display and Unai Emery hinted at a possible transfer after defeat leaves his side needing to win their last game – and hoping for results elsewhere – to automatically qualify for the knockout stages rounds.
West Ham failed to sign Jhon Duran despite a club-record bid of £57m, as Emery digs his heels in on certain players.
Villa are pushing to sign Loic Bade to help them in their bid to return to the Premier League in the second half of the campaign, proving that the stronger the squad, the better the club’s chance of finishing the season in the Champions League positions again.
Since Emery took over the club, they have gone from strength to strength, although they could do with a few new faces around the place to ensure competition for places.
One player who could be on his way out of the club despite a decent individual performance against Monaco is Emi Buendia.
After that game, Emery hinted at the same.
The striker is ready for a five-year contract with Aston Villa!
“Of course, I am very happy with a lot of players. Today, especially with Emi Buendia,” he told reporters, including representatives of CaughtOffside.
“He has the option to leave but we needed him today and he played fantastically with his qualities, fantastic mentality and fantastic commitment to the team.”
There’s still time to get a deal done, although it’s unclear at this point how much interest there has been in the 28-year-old attacking midfielder.
If he can get the guarantees he needs in terms of playing time, there’s a chance he could stay at Villa Park, although he appears to be worse at the moment.
