Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said he supports delaying all of the President’s Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees who do not have unanimous support in the Senate.
Majority Leader John Thune, RS.D., on Tuesday introduced the nomination of John Ratcliffe to be CIA director, the nomination of Kristi Noem to be secretary of Homeland Security and the nomination of Pete Hegseth to be secretary of defense But a last-minute objection by Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., held up a vote on Ratcliffe, sparking hours of debate that could delay confirmation votes on Trump’s national security nominees later this week and possibly beyond of week
“I don’t think it’s too much to ask to make sure we have a full, real two-day debate in the Senate,” Murphy told the Senate floor, adding that Democrats have “serious concerns” about Trump’s CIA. to choose
The Senate voted to confirm Ratcliffe, 74-25, Thursday afternoon.
Asked Thursday if she supported slowing the confirmation process for Trump’s nominees, Schumer indicated that she did.
“Look, there are some candidates like (Secretary of State Marco) Rubio who got broad support, but a detailed discussion — I have some doubts about Mr. Ratcliffe, especially when I asked him how he would react if Tulsi Gabbard were brought in. account of him in the DNI”, Schumer said: referring to Trump’s choice to lead the Office of National Intelligence.

Thune Tuesday expressed frustration with the Democrats about their delaying tactics.

“Do we want to vote these people out on Tuesday or do we want to vote them out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday? Because that’s what we’re going to do. That might be easy or that might be hard,” Thune said. “This is what America is all about national security interests, and we’re stuck, so that’s not going to happen.”
Ratcliffe was cleared by the Senate Intelligence Committee by a bipartisan vote of 14-3. Because of that, Thune said the vote to confirm him “shouldn’t be difficult.”

“Democrats and Republicans, in a very bipartisan way, agree that he’s very qualified for the job,” Thune said, adding that he’s not sure what the gridlock accomplishes.
