Sen. Lisa MurkowskiR-Alaska, said Thursday that he cannot support Pete Hegseth to be President Donald Trump’s defense secretary.
“Given the global security environment in which we are operating, it is critical that we confirm a Secretary of Defense, but I regret that I cannot support Mr. Hegseth,” he concluded in a lengthy statement published on X.

In his reasoning, Murkowski cited infidelity, “allegations of sexual assault and excessive drinking” and Hegseth’s past comments about women serving in the military.

The behaviors he has admitted to alone, he said, show “a lack of judgment that is unbecoming of someone who would lead our armed forces.”
Although Hegseth has admitted to infidelity in the past, he has denied allegations of excessive drinking and sexual assault.
