The threat of a TikTok ban in the US has increased the use and download of several social media apps, including Texas-based Clapper. RedNoteand Like, a A little known platform from Singapore is an AI-powered video feed similar to TikTok, according to new market research.
People in The US couldn’t get TikTok for about 14 hours late Saturday after a federal law banning Chinese influence on software went into effect and introduced online censorship in the country that offers free rewards. About 63 percent of US teenagers and a third of US adults use TikTok, according to Pew Research Center.
Among the sites that have taken refuge was Likee, a TikTok app launched by the Singaporean tech startup Joyy in 2017. Likee had about 33.9 million monthly users as of November, most of them outside the US. But on Saturday, Likee pulled in 143 percent more downloads and 37 percent more usage in the US than the previous day, according to Sensor Towerwhich compares statistics by collecting data from samples of materials. That trend continued on Sunday, when Likee usage was up 11 percent from the previous day.
Estimates by Apptopia, another company that studies the software industry, show that for several months, Likee recorded fewer than 10,000 downloads a day in the US before jumping to about 167,000 on Sundays and about 286,000 on Mondays. Apptopia also compared the similar bumpers of TikTok’s competitors Clapper and Flip.
On Tuesday, shares of Likee’s parent company, Joyy, closed up nearly 3 percent, outperforming the average gain among its Nasdaq peers. Joyy they don’t he took out Likee’s money, but it and other related apps together made about $73 million in sales in the third quarter of last year from advertising and user acquisitions. Likee did not respond to a request for comment.
Other less common apps, including Clapper and Snap’s Snapchat, drew a boost over the weekend to double-digit gains in usage. TikTok’s main competitors, Meta’s Instagram and Facebook, have seen one-of-a-kind shoes. YouTube and X, meanwhile, made a few changes to the app.
RedNote, another Chinese program that the Americans had flocked to by protesting during the days of the ban, they increased 80 percent of users on Sunday than yesterday, according to Sensor Tower. In the first two days of the launch at the beginning of the week, more than 700,000 new users connected to RedNote, Reuters reported. Known as Xiaohongshu in Chinese, it was ranked in recent days as the most downloaded free app on the Google and Apple app stores in the US.

The law, signed by former President Biden last year, will ban TikTok by threatening to provide good websites and shopping malls that work with the parent company, the Chinese technology giant ByteDance, unless it gives up its ownership of TikTok. Users returned to TikTok in large numbers on Sunday, with daily users increasing by 17 percent on Saturday, Sensor Tower data shows.
On Monday, Trump issued an executive order giving an additional 75 days to solve the problem on TikTok. But the legality of its law is still in doubt, and TikTok is still not available in US stores. But when users search for TikTok, they are greeted with a list of other apps – Likee, Clapper, and others.
