Sega has introduced a new system for player accounts. A Sega account will connect all the games and services of both Sega and Atlus. It will also be a place for the two studios to share news, events, updates and promotions for their respective titles. Accounts are free and anyone can sign up.
To sweeten the pot, Sega will also offer bonuses and benefits to account members. The first prize that people can unlock is the Kazuma Kiryu Special Outfit DLC for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaiiwhich should come out next month. The bundle can be redeemed by anyone who sets up a Sega Account before March 7th.
With many studios turning to gaming as a career, it has become a trend to require players to create accounts or online profiles. Sega is a little slow to get on board this train, and there are some corporate features that are still growing in Sega Accounts, such as a page of articles about the games they play. There is no language on the site yet if an account is required.
In announcing the platform, Sega said there will be “various new services and features coming soon.” We already know that Sega is working on a new project Virtua Fighter gamebut we have also said goodbye to others school classics from the company. It seems that Sega is in a phase of change, so it should be interesting to see what else they have in store for this year.
