Houthis redesignated terrorist group after Trump’s executive order

President Trump re-designated the Houthis as a terrorist group on Wednesday, according to the White House.

In an executive order signed Wednesday, Trump said the terrorist group “threatens the safety of American civilians and personnel in the Middle East, the safety of our closest regional partners, and the stability of global maritime commerce.”

“With the support of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC-QF), which arms and trains terrorist organizations around the world, the Houthis have fired dozens of times at the warships of the United States Navy since 2023, putting American men and women in uniform at risk,” the order states. .

“Since seizing most Yemeni population centers by force from Yemen’s legitimate government in 2014-2015, the Houthis have launched numerous attacks on civilian infrastructure, including multiple attacks on civilian airports in Saudi Arabia, the deadly January 2022 attacks in the United Arab Emirates, and more than 300 missiles fired at Israel since October 2023.”
