In 2015, the Tumblr blogging site started a GIF discovery site called Tumblr TV as an experimental drug. Now, it is TikTok ban in the US Leaving the future of the short video program uncertain, Tumblr has decided that now is the time to introduce Tumblr TV, which has changed to support video, for all those who use it as one of the things that go on.
The company on Tuesday he announced the end of this product from his test project at home called Tumblr Labs, explaining how the tab will be available to everyone. New users will see this tab in a prominent third place in the app. Currently, existing users will be able to turn Tumblr TV on or off in their actions Dashboard Tabs changes, Tumblr said.
The idea of elevating this video from an experiment to a mainstream feature almost 10 years after it was created is very much on target. Alternatives to TikTok following a US order that banned the program and other Chinese-owned companies in the country.
Although the implementation of the ban has been suspended for now President Trump’s interventionit is not known whether TikTok will accept the deal – though his more applicants – for the program to remain in the US after the 75-day extension.
Like many programsTumblr noted that it saw a large number of users who joined its service on the day TikTok was banned on January 19, a company spokesperson told TechCrunch. As a result, blogging activity increased by nearly 35% in iOS app installs and a 70% increase in new users who joined communities, a feature that allows users to join different groups that focus on specific interests.
Instead, newcomers set up Tumblr Communities, such as TikTok Repositoryaimed at those who want a place to save and share their TikTok videos. Another community, TikTok Refugeeswas active with new and returning users, the company said.
Like TikTok’s competition, however, TumblrTV falls short. Although the company made a lot of changes when the service was part of the Labs – including the addition of support for the light box, better polishing, and support for videos – the final one does not feel like TikTok, where the original production rules.
Tumblr’s videos allow for dynamic navigation within its channels (such as Art or Sports) when viewed on a mobile device, similar to TikTok. But the GIFs shown on all these screens are pretty cool, while most of the videos shown are not designed for vertical viewing because they were never recorded in a vertical video program.
However, the company hopes that the video feed will make TikTok users feel at home if they decide to move to Tumblr.
Of course, with TikTok back online in the US at the moment, the need for backup software is probably diminishing.
