In my opinion, Disney and Ravensburger have created one of the best good game of last year, surpassing even Magic: The most exciting collection you can have with trading cards. At the London Toy Fair on Tuesday Ravensburger not only announced the seven, it also gave us a preview of the eight and nine sets.
Seven is called Archazia’s Island and features the first character created for Lorcana. We don’t know much about Archazia other than she has a really cool bird mask and lives on an island, but the fact that Disney has created a new character for a trading card game is exciting. I look forward to finding out more about Archazia and their kingdom in March when set seven is released.
Along with the new look and place the seven sets bring a new collection of new starter packs, card sleeves, play mats and troves to buy. The game features artwork from Big Hero Six and Tigger, while the card sleeves feature Cinderella and Ursula.
The Starter decks for set seven are the Ruby/Sapphire deck, featuring Belle and the Beast, and the Steel/Amethyst set featuring Jafar and Iago. The art for “Inventor Belle” and “Beast with a Monocle” are so good, they make me want to get a Ruby/Sapphire deck right away.
Seeing into the future
Reign of Jafar looks good but Fabled is more interesting.
Ravensburger also gave us a preview of what to expect from seasons eight and nine, titled Reign of Jafar and Fabled respectively. “His Crown, His Kingdom” is the tagline of Jafar’s Reign and Ravensburger tells us that Jafar has taken over the island of Archazia and is trying to make it his kingdom. I am happy to see that Archazia will be the head of the race in Lorcana even after seven.
Fantasy only has a passing image but it already looks like a classic Disney mixed with a carousel from Disney Parks. Could it be just a fantasy? We don’t know but I’ve already been shaken by the appearance of the old world.
The Island of Archazia will be released in March, followed by Reign of Jafar in June and Fabled will follow sometime in the third quarter of 2025. If you haven’t entered Lorcana now might be the right time. Carrying Lorcana Gateway game if you’ve never played it before, because it’s an easy way to start.
