Review of the match Liverpool – Lille
Liverpool’s good season continues with a return to European action where Arne Slot’s side can boast a perfect record of six wins in six Champions League games so far.
The Reds are guaranteed at least a place in the play-offs in the new league format and top of the table with two matches remaining.
Lille also impressed, winning four of their six games to finish eighth – but only two French sides have ever won at Anfield in the major competition.
Slott says he is not concentrating on finishing at the top of the table because nobody knows if that will guarantee an easier knockout match at this stage.

“With this new set-up, you think the number one finish is the best position to finish in, but because it’s such a strange league table, because every week, even if you face teams lower down the table, they’re the hardest team to face and if you finish number one, you could face them.
“I don’t think about the league table in a way that if you finish first, you get the easiest team, because being at the top doesn’t mean you’re the best team. It’s impossible to say because of the weird format we have.”

Jota came on to score after 22 seconds in the recent draw with Nottingham Forest, but strained a shoulder muscle and will be out for several weeks.
Versatile defender Joe Gomez suffered a hamstring injury in December and has also been sidelined.
