US oligarchs like Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Apple CEO Tim Cook were all seen sitting behind Donald Trump’s family at church on Monday morning, just hours before the incoming president’s inauguration. And it’s a stark reminder that the US is about to enter a dangerous new era that begins when Trump is sworn in as the 47th president at noon ET.
Trump went to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington DC on Monday, a ritual that has been observed by former presidents such as Barack Obama and George W. Bush. But those presidents didn’t have business leaders who could benefit from the incumbents filling the seats.
Photographer Anna Moneymaker took pictures from inside the church, and a who’s who of the richest, most powerful people in the world of technology, including guys like Zuckerberg, Bezos, and Cook, as well as Google CEO Sundar Photosi and podcaster Joe Rogan.
The Big Tech Mafia in particular appeared to be lining up, with Bezos’ partner Lauren Sánchez also lining up next to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, according to Washington Post.
A notable absence from the church was Elon Musk, especially based on photos taken by a photographer at the pool. Musk and other Big Tech CEOs all have huge deals with the US government through their companies and benefit from being close to Trump. Thirteen billionaires are expected to take positions in the Trump White House.
Commentators on CNBC defended the presence of oligarchs in the church. Chris Sununu, the former governor of New Hampshire, was asked about the presence of the business leaders and seemed happy with the sightings on Monday, saying “It wasn’t the bigwigs” who were in the seats. The idea, of course, is to make CEOs better at running the country.
Podcaster Joe Rogan was also at the church next to the incoming president, pictured in a photo giving Trump an odd look. Rupert Murdoch, the 93-year-old media mogul who owns dozens of media outlets around the world, was also spotted. Trump sat down in the church next to Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance. Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner were seated in the row behind the president.
Trump has promised to take action as soon as he takes office, including amnesty for the terrorists who stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. But there were conflicting reports about whether Trump would pardon the most violent people.
President Joe Biden gave his original pardons Early Monday figures like Gen. Mark Milley and Dr. Anthony Fauci, Trump’s people have said they will retaliate when he takes office. In fact, Trump has previously said that Milley should be executed for treason. So Americans will soon find out if the waiver is worth the paper it was written on.
Trump also launched his own cryptocurrency late Friday, arguably one of the most dangerous things he could have done before entering the White House, as it could transfer wealth from the masses to Trump. Crypto is also at risk of disrupting the global economy as people around the world bet that anything related to the most powerful person in the world is a safe bet.
The $TRUMP coin was one of the top-selling coins of the weekend, accounting for nearly 90% of Trump’s total money, according to Axios. A total of 80% of the money belongs to CIC Digital LLC, a company that is part of the Trump Organization, and Fight Fight LLC, which also owns the Trump company, according to USA Today. At first, it was illegal to just print your money.
If you are an American, things are about to change in this country. And all we can do is try to protect the most vulnerable in our communities as much as we can while Trump and his friends are robbing the country.
