President Biden delivered a two-word message to President-elect Trump Monday at the White House.
“Welcome home,” Biden called to Trump, as the future 47th president arrived outside the White House with his wife, Melania Trump.
Trump walked up the stairs and greeted Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The couples have posed for photos, but have not answered questions from the press. The Bidens and Trumps turned and walked into the White House together for tea.

After the private tea concluded, Biden and Trump entered their motorcade and traveled together to the Capitol opening ceremony. Trump will be sworn in as president around noon ET.
The two-word message reflected the “welcome back” Biden told Trump when the two met in the Oval Office on Nov. 13 after the Republican’s decisive victory over Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.
The welcoming tone is in stark contrast to the combative nature of June’s debate between Biden and Trump, as the Democratic president’s tough performance ultimately led to the suspension of his re-election campaign and Harris to head the ticket.
Just weeks later, Trump survived an assassination attempt on July 13 at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, sending shockwaves through the 2024 election cycle.
