The EU wants to know how the X proposal works

As part of the ongoing investigation X, the European Commission said from a company related to its situation work. The European Union regulator is very interested in the latest algorithm changes. The EC said it had asked X to provide the information by February 15 as it expands its Digital Services Act (DSA) probe.

On top of that, regulators asked for access to other APIs that X provides so they can “directly search for content and the number of accounts.” The Commission has also struck X and ordered his detention. This requires the company to keep internal documents related to future changes to the algorithm until the year 2025 (or earlier if the research is already completed).

“Today, we are taking steps to ensure compliance with the X measures that are responsible under the DSA,” Henna Virkkunen – the Commission’s senior vice-president for governance, security and democracy – said on Friday. “We are committed to ensuring that every platform operating in the EU respects our rules, which aim to create a fair, secure, and democratic online environment for all European citizens.”

EC value in December 2023 to assess potential violations of the DSA. Companies suspected of violating the law must pay fines of up to 6 percent of their annual global revenue.

Thierry Breton, a former European commissioner for the internal market, said the bloc was looking into whether X had failed to meet its obligations to be transparent and crack down on illegal activities. Potential fraud schemes are also under the Commission’s microscope.

Authorities stepped up their investigation after X’s owner Elon Musk publicly supported the UK’s Reform Party and Germany’s far-right Alternative ahead of elections in February. Like notes, some European politicians say Musk is meddling in elections. He dismissed the protest as an attack on free speech and democracy.

To that end, the Commission is looking at whether X’s algorithms suppress some ideas while promoting one issue. However, it said Musk is free to speak as he wishes.
