Outdoor pizza ovens are usually gas, wood or wood fired. Propane gas Pizza ovens can be connected quickly, turn on immediately and bake in minutes. They also burn better, with less smoke and fewer cleaning impurities. It can be connected to propane tanks just like you would a grill.
Wood and charcoal Ovens, in contrast, must be filled (and sometimes refilled) with oil before use and take a long time to heat up; Also, the heat associated with it is trickier to maintain. They also make a big mess, leaving ash and soot. While you might think that a wood-fired pizza oven creates a smoky flavor, the pies aren’t overheated or in the oven long enough to absorb the flavor of the wood. Ovens smell good when they are burning.
There is no significant price difference between different types of fuel. It’s a matter of personal preference. Wood planks can be purchased online or at most hardware and grocery stores and are available in a variety of wood types.
There is also electronics pizza oven, plus This is a great value model from Breville and this new entry from Ninja. Electric pizza ovens only reach temperatures of about 700 degrees F. Purists will tell you that’s not hot enough to make the best pizza. We plan to test a few electric pizza ovens soon and will report back.
If you have dedicated space for your oven, a larger, heavier model should work. If you’re looking to store it between uses or move it regularly, a more portable oven is a better choice. Home pizza ovens start at around 20 pounds, while portable and portable ovens can weigh several hundred.
One accessory you will need for your new pizza oven is a plate of pizza. This special pizza-shaped tool allows you to slide the pizza in and out and rotate it to cook. Remember, these ovens get as hot as 950 degrees so you don’t want to take any chances with a wobbly spatula or small tongs.
Another accessory you may want to include is a cover, especially if you want to leave it on for things that are in use. Some pizza ovens come with a custom lid, but most do not.
Good home pizza ovens start at around $300 and go up (and up!) More expensive pizza ovens have larger frames, larger ovens, and reach higher temperatures. You can find cheap pizza ovens under $250, but until now we haven’t tried one that’s worth the investment.
