The founding member of the “PayPal Mafia” is the person that Donald Trump has chosen to help America occupying Greenland. Ken Howery, the former chief financial officer of an online payment software, is also known for his past ties to two other key members of the aforementioned “mafia”: tech billionaires Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.
Howery, who previously served in Trump’s first administration as US ambassador to Sweden between 2019 and 2021, has been appointed as Trump’s new ambassador to Denmark. Trump said this he wants to buy Greenland from Denmark, although the authorities of the Scandinavian country have repeatedly said that part is not for sale. Trump, not to be disappointed, insisted that he would make it happen and said that it would not prohibit the use of military force to seal the deal.
Howery still needs to be confirmed by the Senate for the position. If they do, they will be tasked with trying to run the deal that the opposition has they were called “crazy.” Even Trump has not been clear about because he wants Greenland, he admits that the territory belongs to him great geostrategic importance. During the Cold War, the US tried to build a nuclear reactor in Greenland to use as a “second strike” against the Soviet Union. The effort was kept secret and, he says, the US was never present informed the Danish government was doing this.
Howery’s involvement in the new administration is further evidence of the political rise of the PayPal mafia under the new Trump administration. Like many of PayPal’s employees, Howery and Thiel were college friends at Stanford. Howery he wrote for The Stanford ReviewThiel’s student newspaper, and, together, the two will go on to create the Founder’s Fund, a powerful investment company that has supported the most successful technology companies in Silicon Valley, including Facebook, SpaceX, and others.
As US State Department officials go, Mr. Howery seems to be enjoying a very happy life. Indeed, in about half a dozen times throughout the Times column, reporters mention his ability to “party.” Howery is known for his extravagant parties, including a Halloween party at a castle in Transylvania in 2022, where Thiel and other billionaires appeared. A Times have passed An article from 2022 also reveals how Howery “threw himself a birthday party in a beautiful 19th-century house outside Stockholm” in November 2020.
During the pandemic, Musk spent a lot of time living in Howery’s house in Houston, and in 2021, he says having a party there where guests were forced to sign non-disclosure agreements. At that party was Joe Rogan (who announced Trump on the election and stayed with Musk often on his podcast), Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, “techno-optimist” doofus Jamie Wheal, and other well-known VIPs, many of whom have ties to the vast techno-libertarian network that surrounds Thiel.
Us it has already been said that the Network State movement—a strange political movement that wants to build itself private cities, powered by cryptocurrency-has also expressed interest in buying Greenland and using it to test his technology. Dryden Brown, CEO of the Network State-linked Praxis project, said that finding Greenland is part of his “plan”. Network State has received financial support from Thiel, who also supported Trump in his first campaign in 2016.
