Sony appears to be pulling back on its lifestyle ambitions, at least according to a new report from Bloomberg. Report it is said that PlayStation has now canceled two more live titles, one from Bend Studio and the other from Bluepoint Games. While there’s no official word on what the game was — neither company has announced the game in development — Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier says one of the titles is set in the God of War universe.
The game company announced shortly after acquiring Bungie that it intends to launch a dozen or more live-action titles before the end of the fiscal year 2025. However, this has been met with difficulties, with chaos behind Bungie itself, with several major sports games either failing to launch or making small demonstrations after the launch. The worst of these is The 2024 Concordewhich started and then died within two weeks. Although Helldivers 2 has proven to be a success, it has proven inconsistent in PlayStation’s ambitions.
Sony bought Bluepoint in 2021, having previously worked with the studio to produce remakes and remasters, including Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. IGN reports since then he said that the next chapter of Bluepoint will be the first. Speaking of Bend, former director of Days Gone Jeff Ross (Bend Studio publishing Days Gone) said that Sony invested $250 million for his next project.
According to the report, Sony has not closed any studios and does not plan to lay off employees. The memo to employees said the company is “working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to determine the next steps and plan to do everything we can to ensure there is no significant disruption to business.”
