EXCLUSIVE: Republicans in Congress are pushing back President Biden’s regulations on household appliances with a resolution that seeks to circumvent the new green energy rules for freezers.
In December 2024, Biden’s Department of Energy (DOE) announced a final rule setting tougher climate standards for refrigerators and freezers. The new regulation is scheduled to go into effect in February, but could soon be blocked Republican deputies seeking to override the rule.
Rep. Stephanie Bice, R-Oka., on Thursday filed a joint resolution of disapproval against the DOE standards for refrigerators and freezers, shared exclusively with Fox News Digital. Lawmakers are using joint resolutions of disapproval to invalidate a final rule promulgated by a federal agency, meaning that if passed, the Republican-led Congress can overturn Biden’s new green energy standard for home appliances.
“The Biden administration has gone out of its way to regulate every aspect of our homes and businesses. Refrigerators and freezers are used everywhere; from pharmacies, convenience stores, food processing facilities , food banks, restaurants and more,” Bice said. Fox News Digital.

According to the DOE’s final rule, the amended freezing standards “would result in significant energy conservation and are technologically feasible and economically justifiable,” but Bice suggests these regulations are an overreach of the federal government into consumers’ lives .
“These rules continue to add unnecessary burdens to everyday Americans and ultimately suppress consumer choice,” Bice said. “This is a direct excess of power that my colleagues and I are fighting against.” The joint resolution is being co-sponsored by Republican Rep. Gary Palmer of Alabama.
The bill comes as Republicans, who have a threefold lead in Washington, are passing legislation and resolutions to roll back Biden’s green energy regulations on various household appliances.

The Department of Energy recently announced a new rule banning non-condensing natural gas water heaters by 2029. However, on Wednesday, Palmer introduced a resolution to block ban on water heaters, which was first reported by Fox News Digital.
