DOJ ‘politicized’ under Biden, Ted Cruz is confident Pam Bondi will reverse it

How senate As confirmation hearings begin for several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is particularly anxious to see former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed as the top official in the application of the law of the country.

“Pam Bondi did a fantastic job at her confirmation hearing,” Cruz told Fox News Digital in an interview Thursday. “She will be confirmed. She will be the next attorney general. And I think, in fact, everyone the trump Cabinet nominees will be confirmed.”

Cruz said Bondi, who was also a personal attorney for Trump, “may be the most important Cabinet nominee that President Trump has made.”

“And the reason for that is under Joe Biden, tragically, we’ve seen the Justice Department politicized and weaponized in a way that’s unprecedented in our nation’s history of how they turned the Justice Department and the fbi in an arsenal to go after the president’s political enemies,” Cruz said.

During Bondi’s hearing Wednesday, Cruz asked him if he would investigate the thousands of unknown migrant children who have entered the United States.

Bondi replied: “Yes, Senator.”

Asked if he was confident she would follow through with it if confirmed, Cruz said, “I am.”

“They were unaccompanied minors, girls, young children who came into this country who were in the custody of the federal government and the federal government turned them over to adults,” Cruz said. “A lot of the adults weren’t family, and now they’ve lost them. They don’t know where they are.”

Republican lawmakers have been critical of the Biden administration’s handling of the illegal immigrant crisis over the past four years.

Shortly after Trump’s election victory in November, Republican House asked Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra about the administration’s process used to verify sponsors.

In testimony before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Integrity, Security and Immigration Enforcement, Becerra testified about his department’s Office of Refugee Resettlement, which is responsible for caring for and placing children unaccompanied migrants.

Republican subcommittee members accused the Biden administration of rushing it migrant children out of HHS custody and into the hands of uninvestigated sponsors, who sometimes exploited and abused them.

Cruz said he also called on Trump’s pick for HHS Secretary RFK Jr. to conduct an investigation into missing migrant children, “because we have an obligation,” he said.

“They were children in the custody of the government,” Cruz said. “We have an obligation to go and protect these children.”

Bondi has secured the support of current and former state attorneys general across the country, as well as more than 100 former Justice Department officials. The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on his nomination in the coming days.

If the committee approves the nomination, the full Senate will schedule a vote to confirm the nomination. While an exact date has not been announced for the final confirmation vote, it is expected to be within the next two weeks.
