Arsenal have often had the pulling power needed to recruit the world’s most talented and promising footballers, but most of their highlights signing came during the summer window.
The Gunners have never been particularly prolific in January and their record in the winter market has been mixed. Quite a few failures traveled to North London at the start of the new year, but there were a number of significant and transformative success stories.

Although he is far from Arsenal’s most glamorous addition Premier League era, few have done more in a red shirt than Nacho Monreal. Arriving from Malaga for £8.5m in 2013, he spent six-and-a-half years with the Gunners, making more than 250 appearances and winning three FA Cups.
The left-back has been a tireless servant during a difficult period for the club, wearing his heart on his sleeve and making over 35 appearances in each of his full seasons. He even succeeded in the 2017/18 season. to score goals and scored six in all competitions.
He left the Emirates as a permanent fan favourite, even if he won’t be competing for a starting place in Arsenal’s all-time XI.
Emmanuel Adebayor and Arsenal did not end up on good terms. After leaving north London for Manchester City in 2009, he burned bridges with the club and their fans by producing that celebration at a meeting between the two sides shortly after his departure.
Running the length of the pitch and sliding his knees in front of the traveling Arsenal fans is unlikely to endear him to his former followers, but the Togo international was still an undeniably impressive signing when he joined the Gunners in 2006.
He scored four Premier League goals in his first half-season in the capital and doubled that tally the following season. However, during the 2007/08 season. he really caught the eye, scoring 24 times in the league in 36 appearances.
Theo Walcott gave Arsenal 12 years of reliable and dedicated service, writing his name into the club’s history books after moving to north London from Southampton in 2006. It didn’t take long for him to get up to speed considering he was signed at just 16 years old, although he was never quite has reached the lofty standards expected of him.
The speedy winger ended up making 382 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 106 times for the club, with his most prolific campaign coming in 2012/13. He scored 21 times and provided 11 assists in all competitions, bettering his tally of 23 assists from the previous season.
Although silverware hasn’t come in abundance during his Arsenal career, Walcott has won the FA Cup on two separate occasions, even scoring in the 2014/15 final in a 4-0 win over Aston Villa.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became Arsenal’s record signing of the 2017/18 season, joining the club for £56 million. Of course, the expectations for the first one were dizzying Borussia Dortmund livewire, who became known for his relentlessness in front of goal and devastating speed.
Those qualities quickly became apparent at the Emirates as he scored 14 goals and assisted as many in his first six months. The Gabonese international bettered that tally by some margin the following season, winning the Premier League Golden Boot with 22 goals.
The goals did not dry up even in the following campaigns, and the timely match in the final of the FA Cup 2019/20. against Chelsea secured Arsenal’s latest major silverware.
A falling out with Mikel Arteta brought his Arsenal career to a premature end, but he remains one of the club’s most devastating modern-day greats.
This one comes with a little star. Arsenal signed Martin Odegaard permanently during the summer window, but he initially joined the club on a six-month loan in January 2021.
Having been tipped as a superstar at an incredibly young age, Odegaard’s potential was not enough to secure him regular first-team action at Real Madrid despite several impressive loans. He improved his game on a temporary move to the Emirates and the Spanish giants were happy to accept a £30m deal.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Odegaard became a transformative figure in the Arsenal engine room, leading the club’s revolution under Arteta. Now captain of the team, his genius, creativity and magical left foot have pushed the Gunners to the pinnacle of greatness.
The 26-year-old has plenty of time to further embellish his legacy at Arsenal.
