SNAP recipients may be barred from buying junk food under the new House GOP bill

Brecheen’s bill would ban the use food stamps to buy “soft drinks, candy, ice cream, prepared desserts such as cakes, pies, cookies, or similar products,” according to the legislative text obtained by Fox News Digital.

Seven Republicans have supported the legislation as co-sponsors.

As the Oklahoma Republican noted, Secretary of State candidate Rubio supported efforts to reform SNAP last year.

He introduced a bipartisan bill with Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., to allow the federal government to collect more data on SNAP purchases and “add improving nutrition security and diet quality to the statement of congressional policy for SNAP.”
