Google is partnering with The Associated Press to bring real-time information from the news organization to its Gemini app, the search giant. he announced on Wednesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The agreement builds on an existing agreement Google had with The Associated Press to access real-time data for its search engine. “This will be especially useful for (Gemini) users who are looking for the latest updates,” Google says of the deal.
“The AP and Google’s long-standing relationship is built on working together to deliver timely, accurate news and information to people around the world,” said Kristin Heitmann, The Associated Press senior vice president and chief revenue officer. “We are pleased that Google recognizes the importance of AP journalism and our commitment to independent reporting by developing its own AI tools.”
In 2023, The Associated Press was among the first media outlets to publish news forming a partnership with an AI companysigned a two-year contract with OpenAI that gave the company the right to choose news stories since 1985. Since then, many other publishers have followed their agreements. In fact, as recently as today, Axios he announced A three-year partnership with OpenAI that will see AI startups invest in four new in-house startups. Last year, OpenAI partnered with People publisher Dotdash Meredith, a deal that was said to be valuable $16 million a year.
