There are many changes in social media as TikTok plans to go dark, Mark Zuckerberg loosens restrictions on Meta apps, and Elon Musk continues to play with the X algorithm to suit his preferences.
Fortunately, despite the volatility of many software users, Bluesky seems to have been able to break through and become a reliable option. And because of the importance of its open protocol, anyone can create their own applications based on the Bluesky social graph.
For example, a developer named Sebastian Vogelsang is developing an app that will be a new version of Instagram on top of Bluesky’s AT Protocol. Because it uses the Bluesky social graph, the text is added Light it will also appear on the main Bluesky client, and vice versa-images sent to Bluesky will appear on Flashes. The app will only filter text-based posts and display only those with images or videos. Through the app, users can share up to four photos and videos, or one minute long videos.
Vogelsang says Flashes aren’t designed to destroy Instagram and won’t get much of what Instagram has. This is understandable, because the program is just a reskin of the program Bluesky. Many people have complained that they long for the days when Instagram was simple, not filled with artificial AI or weird ideas. Light can help fill that hole.
Bluesky was strongly encouraged by Elon Musk to acquire X, then Twitter, despite its size in recent months. It is estimated that Bluesky has approximately 27 million users. That’s nowhere near the size of apps like Instagram and TikTok, and it’s much smaller than X. Reaching large numbers of people on any social media platform is extremely difficult, and X will only see its influence grow as Musk becomes a right-hand man for President-elect Trump.
But Bluesky has a bright future if it can continue to grow slowly. The company raised a $15 million round the back in October with plans to introduce paid subscriptions so that the company does not rely on advertising or collecting user data. Many social networks today have connected their APIs and do not allow third-party clients because it makes it difficult to show and advertise, and only data is used to train AI.
Vogelsang said Results TechCrunch that Flashes should launch in the coming weeks. Anyone who wants to see it can follow Flash account on Bluesky that updates.
