The Senate will probably have a few cabinet candidates who are relatively non-controversial. In the interest of time, senators could agree to speed up the process and confirm an individual nominee or multiple nominees by voice vote or unanimous consent.
As long as there are no objections among the 100 senators (currently 99).
This speeds things up in the Senate, where table time is at a premium.
However, there is good reason why some Democrats may oppose a streamlined process for this.
It’s not because they’re trying to clog the Senate plumbing. Democrats can require a roll call vote from candidates they support to show they voted bipartisanly to confirm some of the President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees.
Democrats are likely to reject Pete Hegseth’s nomination for Secretary of Defense. However, other relatively easy-to-confirm candidates such as Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, chosen to serve as secretary of state, or Sean Duffy for transportation secretary, could require roll call votes.
