President-elect Trump is giving a shout-out to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for pushing for a special legislative session to implement Trump’s long-awaited immigration crackdown.
And Trump is urging other governors across the country to follow Florida’s example.
“Thanks Ron, hopefully other governors will follow!” the president-elect said in a social media post on Tuesday.
DeSantis is calling for a special legislative session in Florida on Jan. 27, with the goal of putting the state in a position to help implement Trump’s promise of mass deportation of people who entered the United States illegally.
The governor is calling for more law enforcement funding and other reforms to help Trump immigration effort.

“State and local officials in Florida must help the Trump administration enforce our nation’s immigration laws,” DeSantis told reporters Monday.
The governor said that “to do this effectively, we will need legislation that imposes additional duties on local officials and provides funds for those local officials. There also needs to be measures to hold people accountable for violating our anti- -sanctuary and that Florida needs to make sure we have no persistent incentive for people to enter our state illegally.”
While Republicans enjoy a supermajority in the Florida Legislature, some state GOP legislative leaders say the request for a special session is “premature.”

DeSantis’ push and Trump’s praise are the latest sign that the two Republican powerhouses are continuing to mend their relationship after a very nasty showdown during the 2024 GOP. race for the presidential nomination.
DeSantis, a bitter rival of Trump in 2023 and early last year, made peace with Trump after the former president defeated his rivals to win the nomination and helped fundraise for Trump during the election generals DeSantis also spoke at last summer’s Republican National Convention.

But Hegseth weathered the political storm and had his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday.
