Soon You’ll Be Able to Edit Photoshop Projects at the Same Time as Others

Adobe kicks off 2025 with some highly anticipated updates Photoshop appearance. Adobe announced Tuesday that its new Photoshop beta version will be a live update, a tool that lets you and your team collaborate in a group. One-on-one editing will make it easier to collaborate with multiple people, edit solutions and make changes without having to save and share the same file over and over again.

“We knew it was going to be a technical challenge, and we wanted to make sure we got it right,” Stephen Nielson, director of product management at Photoshop, said in an email interview with CNET. “We heard from many of our customers that they want a technology to help them better connect with their teams, customers, students, teachers and more.”

Two or more developers can edit a project at the same time and watch the changes happen in real time. (Nielson said there is no “hard limit” to how many editors can work simultaneously.) This feature enhances Photoshop’s collaboration capabilities; other editing programs like Canvas and Figma have had the same functionality with many users for some time.

When you’re editing with multiple people, it looks like Google Docs, where each user has a different avatar that lets you know where other users are and what they’re editing. You can see all the posts that each user makes in the Profile section. A small group of Photoshop users have already tested the feature, with Adobe saying they are happy with the seamless integration.

This tool is designed to help developers streamline their work, especially when they have multiple people providing feedback and ideas on a project. You can change permissions on files to limit who is allowed to edit them — useful information for developers who need to ask for feedback from large groups of people. For example, designers can share work in progress with clients and allow them to view and leave comments (not edits) even if the clients do not have a Photoshop subscription.

Last year, Adobe went all in AI across its Creative Cloud apps, and Photoshop has several tools for creating AI and updates. While AI won’t be behind any of the changes this year (including instant messaging), AI will “absolutely” continue to do so, Nielson said. He said that one AI-powered tool, a well-mixed project Adobe Max, which was released at the end of last fall, is one of the latest AI innovations they have been working on this year.

“We have very exciting plans for 2025, with incredible capabilities made possible by reproductive AI. We’re always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, which will drive what we release this year and the years to come,” said Nielson.

“This year we’re committed to continuing to make Photoshop the most advanced creative software and making it more visual, accessible, and powerful than ever before.”
