Democratic senator’s ‘lies and stupidity’ at Hegseth hearing roasted on social media: ‘Clown show’


Social media users are blasting a Democratic senator for making that claim Secretary of Defense candidate Pete Hegseth would lead a military invasion of Greenland if nominated.

The Senate Armed Services Committee held a confirmation hearing for Hegseth on Tuesday, when lawmakers had a chance to question Trump’s defense picks. a democrat in particular, Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, caused a firestorm of reaction on social media when she asked Hegseth whether he would invade Greenland or take over the Panama Canal.

“Trump never strategically tips his hand. He would never publicly state one way or the other to run the president’s orders,” Hegseth responded to the question.

“Hirono played judge, jury and executioner based on lies and stupidity,” Rep. Nancy Mace, RS.C., wrote in a post on X.

Brigette Gabriel, founder and president of ACT for America, wrote that “Mazie Hirono might be the least intelligent member of Congress, and that’s saying something.”

“This line of questioning is unbecoming of her position as a United States senator,” Gabriel told X. “I’m with Pete Hegseth.”

During the hearing, Hirono stated this President-elect Donald Trump ordered guards to “shoot protesters in the legs” during a protest in Layfayette Square in Washington, DC, in 2020 and questioned whether Hegseth would comply with that order.

“I was in the National Guard unit in Washington, DC that was in Lafayette Square during those events, holding a riot shield on behalf of my country,” Hegseth replied. “I saw 50 Secret Service agents injured by riot police.”

Hirono also asked Hegseth about the sexual assault allegations and claims he was drinking on the job, both of which he has repeatedly denied.
