China says it is open to Elon Musk acquiring TikTok US

Chinese government officials are said to have discussed how ByteDance sells the TikTok arm in the United States to Elon Musk, if The Supreme Court upheld the ban on the program on January 19.

Bloomberg reports that China would much prefer TikTok to be under the ownership of ByteDance, but it is said that government officials see the sale to Musk as part of the plan to work with the administration of President Donald Trump. Accordingly, Musk’s X will acquire TikTok US, based on the 170 million American users of the vertical video and billions in advertising.

A TikTok spokesperson called the report “fantasy” in a statement Various.

The report says it’s unclear how much ByteDance and TikTok knew about China’s negotiations over Musk’s sale, which could reflect China’s reaction to the platform that brought the order in the first place.
