Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y.ordered his caucus not to hold back when it comes to confirmation hearings starting this week for some of President-elect Trump’s nominees for top office.
During last week’s caucus lunch, Schumer said these hearings will be an opportunity for them to walk through Trump’s options and ask them questions about the incoming president’s agenda, a Senate Democratic source told Fox News Digital .
In particular, the Democratic leader told his party they should press candidates on how they will specifically help carry out some of the things Trump promised to do during the campaign, the source said.

As both parties compete for working-class Americans, who have been key swing votes in recent elections, Schumer and Democrats see the confirmation hearings as a prime opportunity to put Trump’s election on record. on crucial issues that matter to this group, according to the source.
Also, Democrats have no plans to hold back when it comes to candidates’ backgrounds, they added. The caucus could use this time as an opportunity to lay the groundwork for any future mistakes by Trump appointees, in which case they could say they warned their colleagues from the start.

Some of Trump’s other picks to appear before committees this week are Gov. Kristi Noem, RS.D., for Homeland Security secretary; Liberty Energy CEO and founder Chris Wright as Energy Secretary; and Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, as Secretary of State.
Since the Republicans will have a majority of 53 seats Senatethey could succeed in confirming Trump’s election without any Democratic support. That is, if they can get all Republicans to support the incoming president’s election.
However, each candidate must still go through a confirmation hearing, during which they will be questioned by members of both parties. Many Democrats have already expressed their intention to question Hegseth, for example, about various allegations of mismanagement of funds and sexual assault, which he has denied.

Depending on their answers, the hearings may play an important role in whether a candidate is ultimately confirmed.
A member of the Armed Services Committee, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, has made clear her concern about Hegseth. “I am deeply troubled by the many ways in which your behavior and rhetoric indicate that you are unfit to lead the Department of Defense,” he wrote to the nominee last week.
“Your confirmation as secretary of defense would be detrimental to our national security and would disrespect a wide range of service members who are willing to sacrifice for our country,” he said.

Senator Jack Reed, DR.I., the ranking member of the armed services, is also expected to ask questions about areas of concern. He met with Hegseth last week, but later said in a statement: “Today’s meeting did not alleviate my concerns about Mr. Hegseth’s lack of qualifications and raised more questions than answers.”

“As with any nominee for this critical position, Mr. Hegseth must undergo the same high level of scrutiny as previous nominees for Secretary of Defense.”
While Hegseth’s confirmation process has been one of the most watched, Democrats are expected to keep the pressure on several of Trump’s picks, with a handful of exceptions, such as running mate Marco Rubio, who several Democrats plan to support.
