New developer Old Glory Studios today announced the launch of its new crowdfunding campaign, in partnership with Folla Capital, LLC. The studio, founded by veterans who have previously worked on titles such as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and The Division, aims to create war-based titles, while its launch game is the PvP shooter Victory’s Grave: Outflank. To build this title, Old Glory has launched a “Regulation Crowdfunding” campaign, which will provide investors in the studio.
According to the founders, Old Glory will use the money to build Victory’s Cemetery, with a minimum of $500 and a grand goal of $1,235,000. They offer the likes of SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity), which will go towards “creating the edge of the game, marketing campaigns, and increasing performance,” according to Folla’s campaign page.
Old Glory functions as a shamrock organization, according to its founders. It will feature a core team – Old Glory co-founders Lewis Manalo and Matt Patak – with exclusive services dedicated to freelancers. Patak and Manalo, the studio’s director and executive producer, respectively, told GamesBeat that the studio already has a gameplay trailer for Victory’s Grave.
Manalo and Patak, told GamesBeat in an interview that the special Victory’s Grave: Outflank is its intellectual property. Patak said that the RTS nature of the game adds a new dimension to the game: “Each round will be new and unique, which will make people play again. The game’s perception will exaggerate reality without losing the sense of reality.” The studio also has plans for a follow-up.
Manalo added that part of the inspiration for the game came from his work on Ghost Recon: Wildlands. “(It) was the first AAA game I ever wrote, and when it came out, I was surprised to hear that not everyone likes to play a narrative campaign. Some people only played in the community, some only played PvP… Our vision is to release these types of games as separate titles that share a story. It reduces our risk. as a studio, and it will save the player money and still give them an experience. Victory’s Grave: Outflank is a PvP game.”
Manalo told GamesBeat in an interview that Old Glory felt that lending money was the best way to create a shamrock for the studio. “Regulation Crowdfunding, unique in the United States, allows us to raise money directly from investors. Unlike crowdfunding, where people already buy a product, investors in Reg CF get money from the company. It has become very common in many businesses, and there is no why game studios shouldn’t use it.”
John Panaccione, a Folla Capital Partner, said in a statement, “This project represents a unique opportunity for investors to support a company led by experts with a clear strategy for success in the gaming industry. Supporting Old Glory Studios is close to a return on investment; it is part of a group that is pushing the boundaries of story and game design.”
