At a time when Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have shown that the will of one person can raise the entire social network, the CEO of Mastodon and the creator, Eugen Rochko, is going elsewhere. In a published today, Mastodon announced its intention to allow a new non-profit organization to take over the company. In other words, Rochko is freely giving back to the work he started almost ten years ago.
The company took steps to create a US-based non-profit organization on its own and the organization will continue to exist as a “fundraising center.” However, the company as a whole will continue to manage its operations overseas. “We are taking some time to choose the right jurisdiction and structure in Europe,” the company wrote, “Then we will see what other (regulatory) measures are needed to support operations and stability.” Mastodon says the renovation will take place within the next six months.
Rochko has made it clear what he disagrees with Musk about. He told Musk that “” two years ago. He said it again the latest “very difficult.” Although Mastodon hasn’t become as prominent a player in user statistics as, say, Threads or Bluesky in the X renaissance of the social network, Mastodon still managed to find a way of great behavior.
