AC Milan are expected to make an official approach to Manchester United over the signing of striker Marcus Rashford.
Milan adviser – and Rashford’s former team-mate – Zlatan Ibrahimovic has publicly said he wants to talk to Rashford about a move.
Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the player, but it is thought that a move could prove too problematic for them due to wages. However, United have maintained a positive relationship with Dortmund after loaning Jadon Sancho to them last season.
Sancho’s move was good for all parties – he performed well for Dortmund and it is understood that United recouped all of his wages during his time there.
Rashford’s camp have spoken to a number of European clubs to explore contract terms. As it stands, United are believed to prefer an outright loan if they are to allow him to leave.
Rashford was again left out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s FA Cup 3rd round tie against Arsenal, which United won on penalties.
Asked if Rashford had played his last game for the club, United boss Ruben Amorim said “I don’t know. We’ll see.”
While United accept they will have to pay a significant chunk of Rashford’s wages, they will look at boosting the structure to ensure the deal works for them.
According to claims, Rashford is Milan’s priority over Kyle Walker in the January transfer window The sky in Italy.
Pep Guardiola confirmed at the weekend that Walker and his representatives were “exploring” his options after informing outgoing sporting director Txiki Begiristain that he wanted to move abroad. According to The sky in ItalySome time ago, AC Milan called up a defender in case Fikayo Tomori leaves the club, but his transfer was blocked by the arrival of new manager Sergio Conceicao.
It remains to be seen if this time can be different and if the Rossoneri will try to get his signature with Bayern Munich who have also been interested in the past.
Milan can only register one English player due to current Serie A regulations.
Per season, Serie A clubs can register up to three non-EU players and one additional player from the United Kingdom or Albania if they do not currently have a non-EU player in their squad.
If they already have one or two non-EU players, they can bring up to two more non-EU players.
If they have more than two non-EU players, they can buy two more non-EU players, but one of them must have played for their national team in the previous 12 months.
Milan could only buy two new players from outside the EU this season due to the number of places already filled.
They did it this summer with the signings of Emerson Royal from Tottenham and Strahinja Pavlović from Red Bull Salzburg. This means that Milan only have one additional place available for a British (or Albanian) player.
Even if they sell a non-EU player, they still can’t sign another UK player. It is one appointment per registration period (season).
The latest from Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth:
Diego Leon will undergo a Manchester United medical today before finalizing a pre-contract for the summer.
Leon arrived in Manchester yesterday.
Once the deal is completed, the 17-year-old will return to his current club Cerro Porteno in Paraguay until the end of the season.
The left back/left wing position is problematic for United given the injuries Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the last 18 months.
As a result, they continue to keep an eye on Nuno Mendes’ situation at Paris Saint-Germain.
Negotiations on a new contract in Paris have so far failed to find a solution, and his current contract expires next summer.
Relations with PSG are said to be good after United signed Manuel Ugarte in August.
Real Betis and Olympiacos have made inquiries to United for Antony.
The Brazilian winger was an unused substitute in United’s FA Cup third-round penalty shootout victory over Arsenal on Sunday.
United will consider bids for Antony – a loan move is most likely and Betis are in the market for the winger having just sold Assane Diao Coma.
