Ireland Women’s National Cricket Team skipper Aimee Maguire has come under extensive scrutiny for her bowling action during the ongoing series against the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team. The two teams are currently clashing with each other in a three-match ODI series.
Aimee Maguire came under the scanner after bowling in the first match of the series against the Indian women’s cricket team in Rajkot. The dismissed player was decent with the ball as she bowled eight overs in the game and returned with figures of 3/57.
After the match, officials submitted a report to the management of the Ireland Women’s National Cricket Team. Subsequently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) sent an official letter to Cricket Ireland, confirming that the illegal bowling action had been reported after the match.
Aimee Maguire will now have to report to an ICC accredited testing center for testing within the next 14 days. Testing will determine whether the ball throw is in violation of ICC regulations. But according to the rules, she will be allowed to bowl until the test results are available.
Cricket Ireland’s director of high performance, Graeme West, has expressed his support for Aimee Maguire. Releasing an official statement, he said that all the players and staff have extended their support to Spinner, giving her encouragement to continue to shine on the international stage.
“The staff and players are rallying around Aimee, assuring her that she will return with stronger action and continue to shine on the international stage for many years to come,” Graeme West said in a statement.
Graeme West further stated that their high performance coaching and support service will assist Aimee in her rehabilitation programme, revealing that they will start after the series against India. He elaborated:
“The experience and expertise we have within our high performance coaching and support services at Cricket Ireland will provide Aimee with the care, support and guidance to implement the remedial program that will commence following the team’s return from India.”
Aimee Maguire, 18, made her debut in 2023. She has played 11 ODIs and nine T20Is so far, taking a total of 25 wickets with a best of 5 for 19 against England in ODIs last year. She would like to correct her act and return even stronger to international cricket.
Maguire has not found a place in Ireland’s XI for the ongoing second ODI against India. She was replaced by Ava Canning in the XI. Along with her, the visitors also made one change, adding Alan Dalzell to the XI.
