What to expect at the Samsung Galaxy S25 Unpacked event

The big launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 is just around the corner. The the first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2025 is confirmed on January 22nd at 1PM ET in San Jose, CA, where Samsung’s “Next Big Thing” (rent 14 year old voice ads) will be revealed. What will it really be like? Well, except for a few sure bets and others of course leak, only those who swore a blood oath under the NDA know for sure. But here are the things that can happen and the features that we will see.

As Apple unveils its latest iPhones his first fall eventSamsung often launches its Galaxy S flagships the first Unpacked shindig of the year. You can bet the farm on it they will be the Galaxy S25 phones at the event. And thanks to Samsung’s recent move to implement a triple-screen display – Standard, Plus and Ultra – you can bet we’ll see it again. (Samsung may technically change the brand names, but the three-party lineup is guaranteed.) FCC certification (first of spots in 91 phones) to remove any doubt.

The level of certainty drops even further when we look at the phone features. A subtle redesign with rounded corners, smooth edges and ultra-thin bezels appears to mimic the leak. movie was posted to Reddit by pictures from the well-known tipster Ice Universe. But this is not expected to be the generation that Samsung is in hiring a former Mercedes-Benz designer it will bring great beauty changes.

Qualcomm

At least in the US, the phone is guaranteed to work Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which the chip maker unveiled in October. (Qualcomm though registered Samsung is among the companies launching devices with the processor “in the coming weeks.”) Like almost every processor today, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is built on hardware AI, which is compatible with Samsung’s Galaxy AI blitz in recent examples.

We don’t know if the company will split its S25 processors between Snapdragon (US and other markets) and Exynos (everywhere), but Ice Universe has it. he said everything will be Snapdragon this generation. That would be a good thing, given the generally good looks and the battery life difference that favors Qualcomm.

The phone will work Samsung’s One UI 7 above Android 15. We know this because Samsung said in October that the user experience (based on Android 15) would be restart Galaxy S ads. It is already available in beta Galaxy S24 phones.

Samsung

It is rumored that Samsung will have the latest OLED displays (made with M13 devices) instead of the bright and transparent M14 OLED panels used in iPhone 16 Pro and Google Pixel 9. Logic suggests that Samsung would want its best home-made screen in its flagship phones – especially when its competitors are already using it. But it can stick with cheaper panels to keep the utility bill down. Perhaps it calculated that better displays don’t make for better AI (the obsession of almost every tech company at the moment), while Qualcomm’s latest chip does.

As for AI, I hope that Samsung will dedicate a long part of the event to have an AI feature. Hit-or-miss DigiTimes Images report last month that the Galaxy S25 lineup will include an “AI Agent that provides your thoughts on clothes and car information.” What it might look like in practice is anyone’s guess, but I’m not sure I want to know.

In front of the camera, Ice Universe what to say (via Android Headlines) has been “confirmed” to be the only extended sensor that will see an upgrade on the Galaxy S25 Ultra – up to 50MP from 12MP on last year’s model. The leaker says the S25 Ultra will have a 200MP main sensor, 10MP 3x zoom and 50MP 5x zoom.

Samsung will add the Qi2 wireless standard to its new flagships – and this is coming from the horse’s (aka, the Wireless Power Consortium’s) mouth. However, leaker chunvn8888 (aka “yawn”) he says Samsung phones will not have Qi2 built-in magnets MagSafe in everything but name to pay. Instead, the leaker says Samsung will sell a first-party Qi2 magnetic ring to make this possible. (I gotta move these gears, baby!)

Rumor has it buzzed of the Galaxy S25 Slim which is said to have – you guessed it – a smaller design to join the trio sometime this year. That’s what Apple is also rumored to be working. However, based on FCC certifications that only seem to show three known links, the phone (if it’s in the pipeline) probably won’t arrive until the end of the year.

DigiTimes Images report in December that Samsung will show (or just tease) the Galaxy Ring 2 with augmented reality (AR) glasses at its January Unpacked event.

The Taiwanese publication says that the Galaxy Ring 2 will add another nine sizes from it the first examplewhich only started in July. The second version of the model is said to add a new AI feature (surprise!) and updated sensors for more accurate measurements. The Galaxy Ring 2 is also said to last longer than the current seven days.

Google

DigiTimes Images it also mentions Samsung’s AR glasses – which the company owns confirmed that it works – will look like regular prescription glasses and weigh about 50g. They say the glasses of the future will use it Google’s Gemini AIwhich is consistent with what we already know about Samsung partnership with Google and Qualcomm on Android XR. But due to the lack of rumors about the sale of the glasses, it is possible that anything that will be mentioned at the event will be a guess, a big show of … stink’ give for the first Galaxy Ring at Unpacked 2024.

We also know that Samsung is developing an Android XR (augmented reality) headset – called Project Moohan – alongside Google and Qualcomm. “Lightweight” and “ergonomically designed” the head unit will have a “modern display,” successful videos and various natural inputs. The Google interface looks like a reminder of Apple’s $3,500 Vision Pro.

Since Google just started providing tools and APIs for the platform, a look at Unpacked won’t include upcoming releases or deep dives into its tools.

Engadget will have full coverage of Samsung’s first Unpacked event of 2025. More to come on January 22!
