Chelsea are expected to field their second line-up on Saturday, but injuries will also affect Maresca’s team selection.

Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are missing at center back, with Chelsea already looking for defensive cover in the January market. Romeo Lavia could return to midfield after missing five of the club’s Premier League games.

Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are likely to miss the weekend due to illness and injury respectively, while Mykhailo Mudryk is still unavailable after recently failing a doping test. Ben Chilwell and Cesare Casadei will also not feature as they look to move on.

Predicted line-up Chelsea vs Morecambe (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen; Acheampong, Dsisa, Adarabioyo, Veiga; Brother-in-law, Lavia; Dueke, Pile, George; Guide.

Derek Adams

Morecambe manager Derek Adams will be dreaming of a miracle on Saturday, but the reality is his struggling side are likely to be little more than a punching bag for 90 minutes.

Even the goal would be wildly celebrated by the traveling fans, who had little to shout about this term. Ben Tollitt is their top scorer, with the 30-year-old scoring eight and setting up three in all competitions.

Morecambe predicted line-up against Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Burgoyne; Hendrie, Williams, Stott, We Create; White, Jones; Tollitt, Breast, Edwards; Duckers.

Chelsea have shown their ability to put up less opposition to the sword this term. They scored 26 in six European Conference League games, including an 8-0 win over Armenia’s Noah, and beat League Two Barrow 5-0 in September in the Carabao Cup.

Saturday could see them run up the score and show their attacking muscle against the second-worst side in English football’s top four this term. Only three sides have conceded more than Morecambe’s 39 in League Two and Adams’ side could be in for a long old afternoon against Chelsea’s star-studded and rich squad.

Prediction: Chelsea 7-0 Morecambe
