As a result of President-elect Donald Trump announcing that he hopes to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America,” a Texas congressman offered a compromise suggestion the size of a lone star.
“Interesting engagement”, Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw posted as a caption to a map showing the Gulf of Mexico label replaced by the emblem of a smiling Buc-ee the beaver in his red ball cap.
His post gained some traction on social media, with one enthusiastically commenting, “Buc-ee’s golf!”
Although it’s only begun to grow its footprint up north, the Lake Jackson, Texas-based interstate gas station/food stand/country store/convenience has a cult following in the South, as evidenced by the response to Crenshaw and others floating the idea.

Known for more than 100 gas stations dispensing loss-leader prices that help draw crowds, Buc-ee’s has been described as a 7-Eleven “on steroids” and “an amusement park without the rides.”
Cooks can be heard regularly yelling “Fre-e-esh brisket on the chalkboard” as they continually restock Texas BBQ patrons from a station in the middle of the store, while cheeky billboards advertise their bathrooms massive and flawless for miles.
The stores are also known for their pet’s prized “Beaver Nuggets” snacks, freshly made caramel candy, jerky “wall”; vacation necessities like camp chairs, clothing and even meat smokers.

From Crenshaw’s “Buc-ee golf” idea, social media was ablaze with support for the red-hatted beaver.
“I would support it,” wrote one X user.
“Buc’ees golf gets my vote, that means sandwich and a stop with hundreds of clean bathroom stalls every 3 hours…maybe also grabbing an iron skillet, crawfish kettle or a pair of Buc PJs -ee”. a second user daydreamed about the idea.

Another commenter said they had yet to visit a Buc-ee’s, but joked, “I hope one day to be named among the blessed to have walked through the Brisket Doors. Gulf of Buc-ee’s, I can back that up.” .
