On the trail Faf du Plessis’ departure from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team, fans are eagerly anticipating who will lead the team in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. He bought Fafa, who captained RCB for the last three seasons Capitals of Delhi in the IPL 2025 mega auction, leaving a significant leadership void in the team. The main candidate for that role was none other than Virat Kohliwho previously led RCB with distinction in past seasons.
Head coach of RCB Andy Flower addressed the constant speculation about the team’s new captain. While Flower acknowledged the growing curiosity, he stressed that a decision had not yet been made and conveyed that it was the start of a new three-year cycle, stressing the need for patience as the outcome unfolded, suggesting the anticipation would be exciting.
“Well, you’ll have to wait for the outcome. We are entering a new era, the beginning of a three-year cycle, and I’m sure the anticipation will be good for you.” Flower said in an interview with Sports Tak.
He further stated that the talks about the captain position of the team have not yet been held, despite repeated inquiries. “You can ask me as much as you want, but that communication hasn’t happened yet,” Flower added.
While Kohli is widely considered a suitable candidate for the captaincy, given his vast experience and leadership background, RCB have several other experienced players who could step up. The team can boast of players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandyaand both have considerable experience as captains in domestic cricket, particularly in the shorter format.
Another possible option could be Phil Saltwho previously captained England T20I. With such a wealth of leadership talent within the squad, RCB have a number of options to consider as they look to build a competitive IPL 2025 squad.
