Lenovo’s latest products prove that PCs can be fun

Large organizations are not known to be vulnerable. This is as true in the world of consumer hardware as anywhere. Annual updates are more frequent, with minor changes to things like screen resolution or image quality.

It’s surprising that Lenovo gets so excited when it unveils the latest updates to its PC lineup every year. The offerings are often a combination of products and ideas, the latter of which may never see the light of day, but serve as a more permanent souvenir than what PC developers can think of outside the box.

Cost of CES 2025 marked the transition of the portable laptop from concept to product. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 will arrive later this year, at a low, low price of $3,500. At the heart of the product is a display that expands to 16.7 inches. It’s not an instant change – instead, the activation process is hidden. But you just have to wait about 10 seconds for it to go from point A to point B.

The simple answer to the “why” of marketing is “because it’s good.” In practice, however, I can fit a larger screen into a smaller format. From that point of view, it’s really similar to curved phones.

A few other products that have been shown at CES are still in the concept stage but mention them here. The first is the main desktop, which uses foot traffic tracking to track the user. Changes height or moves left or right. It’s the desktop version of the Auto Twist AI PC that the company introduced in September.

In particular, the case and the base of the system were made from bamboo and corn, in order to improve the production of sustainable materials. The system was presented with a wireless keyboard that automatically charges using ambient light.
