Hyve Parcel Safe Protects Porch Robbers by Yelling at Them

If home cameras unable to stop the porch robbers, perhaps a giant, pin-locked will. The Hyve “delivery pod” asks drivers to drop packages into a secure bin at your door. Even when the bandits manage to take the pod, the security screams until they stop it. Hyve is not yet another attempt to shake up the home delivery market. It’s a great way to uncover the many challenges facing online retailers today.

The startup Hyve showed off its first solar-powered shutter for delivery during CES 2025. It can connect to other Matter-enabled security devices, though the delivery pod is a bit smaller than the Ring-style cameras. There’s a pin code and software-activated lock on the outside, but the pan is attached to a quarter-inch carbon fiber cable that you fasten to the inside of your front door. You can get through it with big bolt cutters, but there’s added security with a built-in accelerometer. When you start moving it, the pod emits a very loud sound. It then sends an alert to the owner or any neighbors connected through the app.

You can give Bluetooth or WiFi users access to the pod so they can retrieve packages. Hyve pods must also rely on drivers to do their part. You can leave your PIN and delivery instructions with your online order, but drivers are not guaranteed to follow those instructions. At least the pod includes a window to allow drivers to take a photo of the delivered package.

Hyve co-founder Melissa Kieling told Gizmodo that the startup is finalizing a deal with one delivery company to allow drivers to access pods without requiring a homeowner’s PIN. The other end of the deal is that Amazon or other online retailers don’t require individual boxes per order. However, this may also require companies to change their distribution channels.

But if Hyve becomes popular, it can work and come back. The device can call nearby drivers to notify them of a returned package instead of companies requiring customers to stop.

Hyve will ship in June this year. The starting price is $300, and the program requires an annual registration fee.
