The second is that if we continue to make changes for many people. We have more than 100,000 farmers and growers who are now using climate-friendly farming methods. Will climate events, which divide the seasons, continue to grow?
The bottom line is how well we do at building the things we need to build. Iron in the soil. One of the things we’ve been trying to develop as a discipline is the expertise in creating ethical certifications around these new technologies so they can scale. Can we build as fast as we can while making sure that when the tower goes up, the community feels like they built the warehouse together, not like they were replaced?
We have discussed economic and industrial leadership, but political leadership is also important. Trump has indicated that he will withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement, for the second time in five years. Doesn’t that make it more difficult to hit the road you just described?
Does that one thing mean the end of US climate leadership or sideline us from the progress we need to make? No. But it carries symbolism and perhaps more of the second order.
Since the beginning of this reign we have had the West Wing at the center of the season. A new group. Gina McCarthy directed it, now I do. We have senior directors in my group who look at every sector of the economy, who have education in science, business, engineering, policy.
What happens when you don’t have a lot of interest and a lot of dedication to the most talented people driving? What happens when the US is at a multilateral conference or bilateral meeting and does not prioritize the implementation of traffic laws for a strong economy?
I think what happens is we leave the US leaving American workers in the race for energy jobs, and we reduce our energy around the world. Not only will the season not stop for the next four years, the competitors are not slowing down – to make the most of clean energy technologies, and to make a global impact.
Four years is not a long time. You must have come to think about the second time. Are you thinking about things you want to do but can’t afford?
The big things are, the first part, the parts where we haven’t reached escape velocity. We must continue to push for our wealth. It is unfinished business that needs to be addressed by state and local governments, by the private sector, and by the federal government.
The second is to ensure that we are investing adequately in skills and workforce. We have a bad habit in this country of removing talent at the top and not investing in the organizations that attract the most people to work. The union is ahead of it; Biden spent a lot of time on the development of education.
