Aerial video showing before and after views of the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles



(KTLA) – The extent of the damage caused by Fire of Palisades it’s even more obvious when viewed from above.

Nexstar’s KTLA got its first clear aerial look at the destruction Thursday morning and used satellite technology to share before-and-after views of Los Angeles. Pacific Palisades neighborhood ravaged by fire. You can see these images in the video above.

After two days of ground images showing some of the “thousands” of structures that have burned in the massive blaze, the smoke eventually cleared enough for Sky5 to share an overview of the charred landscape.

“I couldn’t imagine what we were getting ready to see once we got to that side of the hill,” said pilot Rich Prickett. “I’m seeing more destruction here in Pacific Palisades than buildings standing.”

Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin M. Crowley said the Palisades fire, already the city’s most damaging wildfire, was also one of the most destructive natural disasters in the city’s history.

“They were all houses at one time and they’re completely destroyed. One neighborhood after another… Almost the entire community of Pacific Palisades has been destroyed here in the last few days… It’s unbelievable,” Prickett said. “It burned to the ocean.”

Nearly 27 square miles burned in Pacific Palisades, which is dotted with celebrity homes and was memorialized by the Beach Boys in their 1960s hit “Surfin’ USA.” The flames engulfed part of Palisades Charter High School, which has been featured in many Hollywood productions, including the 1976 horror film “Carrie” and the TV series “Teen Wolf.”

The fire destroyed the public library, two large grocery stores, a couple of banks and several stores in Palisades Village. Actor Billy Crystal and his wife Janice they lost their home 45 years old

The fire was zero percent contained as of Thursday afternoon.
