German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sent a warning to President-elect Trump about border rules as the president continues to enter his threat of taking control of Greenland.
Scholz said Wednesday that he spoke with several European leaders and the president of the European Council. During this discussion, the chancellor noted that a “certain misunderstanding” was shared regarding the “current comments of the US”. The Associated Press reported.
However, he did not call Trump by name, according to the AP.
The president-elect has been openly vocal on the acquisition of Greenland, which is a territory of Denmark. Trump too he refused to commit not to use the US military to regain control of the Panama Canal.
Scholz said it was a long-standing principle that “borders should not be moved by force.”
“The principle of inviolability of borders applies to all countries, regardless of whether it is to the east of us or to the west, and all states must respect it, regardless of whether it is a small country or a very powerful state”. he said
Scholz added that respecting borders is a “fundamental principle of international law” and part of Western values.

Scholz emphasized the importance of the international group, calling it a “central pillar of the transatlantic relationship.”
The AP noted that Germany was targeted by Trump during his first term for failing to meet spending targets. He said on Tuesday that NATO members should increase spending to at least 5 percent of their respective GDPs.
Germany holds elections next month; the German chancellor it’s been a fight with key Trump ally Elon Musk above the latter perceived effort to influence the outcome of the contest.
Scholz also stressed the importance of countries being united and acting in unity.
