Lightweight contender Andy Cruz fights Omar Salcido this month in a 10-round co-headlining bout on a Matchroom card promoted by Eddie Hearn on January 25 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Chelsea Ballroom, Las Vegas. Super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco will fight Steven Nelson in the main event.
‘Diamond’ Andy Cruz (4-0, 2 KO) is being fast tracked by Hearn due to his impressive amateur pedigree in Cuba. He won the Olympic gold medal in 2020, defeating the American fighter Keyshawn Davis. It was Cruz’s fourth victory over Davis, and it was effortless.
Salcido (20-1, 14 KOs) is coming off a big ninth-round knockout win over Chris Colbert last October 16th. Colbert was once viewed as a future world champion and super featherweight star. His career went downhill in the previous three years.
Cruz is ranked #4 by the WBA, #5 by the WBC and #6 by the IBF at lightweight. He must often fight against a better opponent so that he can soon reach the title of world champion. None of the top guys want to fight Andy, which is understandable. It’s Hearn’s predictable.
