Trump files an emergency petition with the Supreme Court to avoid the ruling in New York against Trump

President-elect Trump filed an emergency petition with the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday morning in an effort to block his conviction in New York against Trump.

Judge Juan Merchan set Trump’s sentencing in New York for Jan. 10 after a jury found the now-president-elect guilty of falsifying business records in the first degree, following an investigation by the Manhattan district attorney , Alvin Bragg. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges and has appealed the sentence, but it was thrown out by Merchan last week.

NEW YORK JUDGE SETS TRUMP SENTENCE DAYS BEFORE INAUGURATION

“President Trump’s legal team filed an emergency petition with the United States Supreme Court, asking the Court to correct the unfair actions of the New York courts and to stop the illegal witch-hunt ruling from the Manhattan attorney,” said Trump spokesman and White House communications director Steven. Cheung told Fox News Digital. “The Supreme Court’s historic decision on immunity, the Constitution and established legal precedent demand that this meritless hoax be dismissed immediately.”

Cheung said that “the American people elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate that demands an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and all remaining witch hunts.”

He added, “We look forward to uniting our country in the new administration as President Trump makes America great again.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
